Real Wood Flooring
Wood is such a beautiful flooring material and has many benefits, it is warm under foot, it doesn't hold on to dust when varnished and is easily cleaned, finished properly it is stain resistant and it can (like some of us humans) look better with age.
Our joiners have been laying real wooden flooring for years. This is a job we can really be proud of because they look so good when complete.
Laminate Flooring
Laminate could be described as real wooden flooring on a budget. However there are many benefits to installing laminate flooring other than cost.
Laminate flooring is much easier to install than real wood as it just clicks into place, it can be much tougher than real flooring - and so is now found in lots of shops. It is easily cleaned and does not hold dust which is a relief for asthma sufferers and children, a laminate floor is very easy to lift when you want to change the flooring and you can even lay a vinyl floor or carpet over the top of it.
Underlay
Under your flooring you will need to put down a suitable underlay.
Most of the time a simple white foam underlay will be fine (as above). Upstairs or in a loft room a fibreboard should be used to reduce noise and on a concrete or screeded floor a rubberised underlay will be used to reduce heat loss and stop moisture penetrating.
Ask for advise when purchasing your flooring.
Beading
Unless you plan on laying new skirting board over your flooring you will need to fit beading around it's perimeter.
The beading will hide the 'gap' you need to leave for expansion of the flooring. This comes in many matching styles to match your flooring or even real wood such as oak. Sometimes white is used to match to the skirting board instead of the flooring. It can be pinned or glued.
